They have been asking me where they can see some examples of my work in charcoals and so far, I have had to show them my blog. They wanted to know why I don't have charcoals on my website. Well, I am awfully new at charcoals having just taken my first class this October and November but what a good idea! So, yesterday, I started working with my website designer, Steve <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error"><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Eimer</span></span>, to add a Charcoal Gallery to the site. It makes good sense. So until I get the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">official</span> charcoal on-line gallery up, here are some of the works that I have done in the past few weeks. There will be more to come. I am so thankful for all of my great teachers in Annapolis; Rick Casali, Andree Tullier, John Ebersberger, and the Egeli's. What an amazing group of super tallented portrait artists and they are all so generous with their teachings and tips. They are a great group of people and I am looking forward to studying with them for one more month this winter.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div>Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236307831653964105.post-11092685219751218702010-10-18T19:27:00.001-07:002010-10-18T19:42:58.832-07:00Charcoal Portrait<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7tIMUO_7CbOaEzL0HxahGjd2H0-NoNfLR7KZsESz_qh0OkQg3eLsYE6BK6bEkXSzIaD__zZp_3tUluXoY3QBNGR3te1SwdGmgoehwZtWKMLg4ON7JqjEUCF2Lt2d7C5z7skthfOO0LbOU/s1600/Craig+Amaral+1.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 238px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529578849650302978" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7tIMUO_7CbOaEzL0HxahGjd2H0-NoNfLR7KZsESz_qh0OkQg3eLsYE6BK6bEkXSzIaD__zZp_3tUluXoY3QBNGR3te1SwdGmgoehwZtWKMLg4ON7JqjEUCF2Lt2d7C5z7skthfOO0LbOU/s320/Craig+Amaral+1.jpg" /></a><br /><div><div>This was my second charcoal portrait class working on this portrait. The idea was to have the colors relate to each other in such a way that there is a convincing impression of bright sunlight and shade. I tried to pick one color note for each color mass for example, I tried to find one color to represent the table in light and the table in shadow... the bowl in light and the bowl in shadow both for the inside and the outside of the bowl. Once these colors work well together to describe the outdoor light, subtle colors can be added to better describe how the light varies in these masses. I am told that this is the opposite of how the old Impressionist master such as Monet would work. They would build up little impressions of light and build up the masses with them. We build the masses first and them model them with subtle impressions of color. <a href="http://www.johnebersberger.com/">John <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Ebersberger</span></a> is my teacher for this class and his beautiful Impressionist paintings can be seen on his website. I wanted to understand the planes of the human head better so that I could have a better understanding to my approach of portraits. This is the result of three days of study and work. When the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">life</span> size heads were completed we started smaller models just to go over one more time the basic structure of the head. I loved this class and even though it was a grooling three days 9 AM to 4PM I was sad when it was over. We worked on them for about 2 hours out of the three hour class. working from the live models is the best way to go. I still am trying to figure out how the pastels work and I am forever thinking of how it would be easier in oils but then I would not be learning pastels! We will have two more classes to work from this model. she is much more beautiful in real life and I hope to try to capture a little of that <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">before</span> I am done. All of these starts are good for me but I would like to make a finished work. That will come in time.</div></div>Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236307831653964105.post-85350679318036832010-10-11T19:31:00.000-07:002010-10-11T19:37:06.329-07:00Charcoal Portrait Class<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglJA8S-sBBeR7QQ2DDjg5v1B_uN0Mw73ZHs6uoyaJ76pMzeslzyRjsprj26CnsA1_u51oRhSM3rSIdvzezikBV8__MsKkXPBKWC33OKdzA-MLEGPoq2HIBUcPebfwoF5p1tYfCaiEncbc-/s1600/Model+Craig++2.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 122px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5526981902298300194" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglJA8S-sBBeR7QQ2DDjg5v1B_uN0Mw73ZHs6uoyaJ76pMzeslzyRjsprj26CnsA1_u51oRhSM3rSIdvzezikBV8__MsKkXPBKWC33OKdzA-MLEGPoq2HIBUcPebfwoF5p1tYfCaiEncbc-/s200/Model+Craig++2.jpg" /></a><br /><div>I think that charcoal is nice to work with in the way that you can move it around and change it easily so in that way it is similar to oils. We had a model named C<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">raig</span> and we also had a female model. I don't often get the chance to have a man sit for me so I chose the man. Rick <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Casali</span>, our teacher, walked us through the process. We are half way through and he has asked the same models to come back next Monday so that we can finish them. I had just started working on the shading so it will be good to have Craig sit for us again.</div>Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236307831653964105.post-89843452246560741352010-10-08T15:58:00.000-07:002010-10-08T16:17:20.221-07:00Today was a day for studying the back of a statue or two.<div><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdemS6DUAasdXg7NUjSl6iZlgIY9h1olOgI34ZnLJmbvQwz5-csFeaHeE5RscIe23TT73XnE5A68k6s7TofhM8sW8LAH1XhkEkzov-nGB1Xh4qpxc7sOopgNy-sRg4P3RFI5FLqedfDEYJ/s1600/IMG_2637.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525816592858474018" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdemS6DUAasdXg7NUjSl6iZlgIY9h1olOgI34ZnLJmbvQwz5-csFeaHeE5RscIe23TT73XnE5A68k6s7TofhM8sW8LAH1XhkEkzov-nGB1Xh4qpxc7sOopgNy-sRg4P3RFI5FLqedfDEYJ/s200/IMG_2637.JPG" /></a> In figure painting class we started out with a statue. We will have a live model next week! First we used charcoal to study the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">subject</span>, then we removed almost all the charcoal leaving a ghost image. Then we painted the light and dark of the back ground and the light and dark of the object. That is how we are to start the live figure model, too. It was fun and I learned a lot but the three hours went by like 15 minutes! It was so fast! I wished that I had more time to work on it but it was great anyway.<br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwddIymNalN4BHmx_6sS3COJPXfDNvfuL6RMDaXj79KAGWsEsgTxmILs17el-kuwN43qEU8StQcmxPWHJOUtNKUQ3t-sSMXF8q03VcxrfyATL9yWcdtIli5ip6pSTISXK-vif2blkBra68/s1600/IMG_2642.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525816592179397666" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwddIymNalN4BHmx_6sS3COJPXfDNvfuL6RMDaXj79KAGWsEsgTxmILs17el-kuwN43qEU8StQcmxPWHJOUtNKUQ3t-sSMXF8q03VcxrfyATL9yWcdtIli5ip6pSTISXK-vif2blkBra68/s200/IMG_2642.JPG" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9zh2ub05aw4tNPtYlY08qgPwM2ERgeKfCf9sfwhAudorA2Qd0dKrUhZt-UbdTT0pl119tH-NICKtzYfXed8f6SyoVZFc7IOZw4Alf_Fu-z8e-IR8sMIoHVIMWfx6dYvIbyPPknWWGrjZ7/s1600/IMG_2645.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525816598247214290" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9zh2ub05aw4tNPtYlY08qgPwM2ERgeKfCf9sfwhAudorA2Qd0dKrUhZt-UbdTT0pl119tH-NICKtzYfXed8f6SyoVZFc7IOZw4Alf_Fu-z8e-IR8sMIoHVIMWfx6dYvIbyPPknWWGrjZ7/s200/IMG_2645.JPG" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz50yzG1oPtzd3poF6C0pE1I4SQ5Wl-9FB_Tn02U5fFAkdWNgG6XY9RaSAc5AxkC6cfJxUtHebXwb5LO8nWbM6IqyK9YU6zh2_WWwA9A-gddk3nQ4zo1WCMSe2Eu3DwgBTCytMywpMt0Jw/s1600/IMG_2677.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525816601689757154" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz50yzG1oPtzd3poF6C0pE1I4SQ5Wl-9FB_Tn02U5fFAkdWNgG6XY9RaSAc5AxkC6cfJxUtHebXwb5LO8nWbM6IqyK9YU6zh2_WWwA9A-gddk3nQ4zo1WCMSe2Eu3DwgBTCytMywpMt0Jw/s200/IMG_2677.JPG" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnsvx5I9tOi3RyqGQ2eqsfRIWqxUj8p_Bs7QrN9MtnIkMyv9qJGk6NcbY-FumRQG2XyYtjCJUQj9yJw3pn9WTnP4wjjSaVNRsPAovRP9B7iRrRG03gdVymGyXHOUsWqWIJZi25WoADnUvL/s1600/IMG_2678.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525816610945081474" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnsvx5I9tOi3RyqGQ2eqsfRIWqxUj8p_Bs7QrN9MtnIkMyv9qJGk6NcbY-FumRQG2XyYtjCJUQj9yJw3pn9WTnP4wjjSaVNRsPAovRP9B7iRrRG03gdVymGyXHOUsWqWIJZi25WoADnUvL/s200/IMG_2678.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifqVTp4PouCMe4ScbPJNWPZLup9MToZpyIWrrv1GuhAhlm73gq3uMtQ6HC3WB7ao0v28rTKkaX5l0UfrulzZ5ozGUuLUFkGKTlCWQ2m9Hxf_H9aWmVc6efuIXc-Fg3CT052O7B35jQzYST/s1600/IMG_2682.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525814465433040258" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifqVTp4PouCMe4ScbPJNWPZLup9MToZpyIWrrv1GuhAhlm73gq3uMtQ6HC3WB7ao0v28rTKkaX5l0UfrulzZ5ozGUuLUFkGKTlCWQ2m9Hxf_H9aWmVc6efuIXc-Fg3CT052O7B35jQzYST/s320/IMG_2682.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div>Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236307831653964105.post-84837866098985691932010-10-03T14:32:00.000-07:002010-10-03T16:01:41.741-07:00Getting the Basics!I am studying in Annapolis. Being basically self taught, I feel that I have a lot of gaps in my art education. I decided to fill them in! Here are a few examples of what my studies<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyyEM9vE8UgRlcUHgVHv9a9w_ogxzHMuYJgvBU3r4d96cSyS4ydU4Ff4MP4USsJOMTeCK5Ppj45s-CT-7AZ6PREScW4jnclwy3wVX5-F4X_zq-7BOP6VdGb6bgjRsEYLfptZY80SWacwzR/s1600/2010+09+19+Block+Study+2.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 207px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 280px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523936715086176978" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyyEM9vE8UgRlcUHgVHv9a9w_ogxzHMuYJgvBU3r4d96cSyS4ydU4Ff4MP4USsJOMTeCK5Ppj45s-CT-7AZ6PREScW4jnclwy3wVX5-F4X_zq-7BOP6VdGb6bgjRsEYLfptZY80SWacwzR/s320/2010+09+19+Block+Study+2.jpg" /></a> look like.<br /><br /><p> </p><p>This block study is from drawing class. My teacher, <a href="http://www.andreetullier.com/">Andree T<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">ullier</span> </a>is great at teaching the tools needed to draw freehand. We measure angles and distances with a straight thin stick or paintbrush handle. With these blocks we also studied tones using a six tone scale that we placed on the edge of our drawings.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3cOrUK6Bcjffe5LSkFq7hb5RQsmknIDEoZNQncu399BRKy_0h9hEQ-jwiiSKadgbNNbTlpMj4YHVQMxEqLv7EOQk9XMgbVIp28R5Eq-7OtRy2OLl0S9CQYzyQGVO5r87yy7czyHQm6Dox/s1600/IMG_2592.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 195px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 269px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5523936724092147074" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3cOrUK6Bcjffe5LSkFq7hb5RQsmknIDEoZNQncu399BRKy_0h9hEQ-jwiiSKadgbNNbTlpMj4YHVQMxEqLv7EOQk9XMgbVIp28R5Eq-7OtRy2OLl0S9CQYzyQGVO5r87yy7czyHQm6Dox/s320/IMG_2592.JPG" /></a></p><p></p><p></p><p>In figure drawing, we are learning to look "inside" the body for the rib cage and pelvis. We try to find the "long lines" and we observe the slant of the shoulders, mid-section and hips. You can see the brush just under the paints. The brush holds water so I do not need to bring a water bottle. I just put my journal and this <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Koi</span> paint kit in my handbag and it is all that I need to make small watercolor studies anywhere I go; museums, views from my car, or to work out ideas before I paint a larger work. I love it. It is a great way to make color thumbnail composition studies. These two small studies are of two works by the artist <a href="http://http//www.haydenhaysgallery.com/artist_artwork/235/566/LettersFromtheWest.html">Kim English</a>. I am so glad that I got the chance to do this work for them. I had to make some changes along the way. The son's head was redone and you can see from the previous post that many other minor changes were made. It is difficult work but I love it and bit by bit is coming to life. I don't know how long it will take me to finish but I have found that I have to block out big chunks of time for days in a row to keep the momentum flowing and my focus clear. I can not put aside five hours one day and then come back two days later and pick up where I left off so it is good to have 10 or 12 hours set aside two or three days in a row. I am learning! Five people all on one canvas is more than double what I have ever painted and I love the challenge.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJWkZ1cqKgo_RobjPbDktnyJwLrARM46E5pBBeGzAnkt8K-gW8VbHysK_oHNLTcxVx1h1EPxx3wjnXoCRLqfnmoXNa1t4vqYbhgYZkkxin5aKsyXWK2iIrJ2kh_0_POhVOcyIzCbYx1cLF/s1600-h/2010_02_18+Progress+El+Gadhi.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 213px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439864109781294050" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJWkZ1cqKgo_RobjPbDktnyJwLrARM46E5pBBeGzAnkt8K-gW8VbHysK_oHNLTcxVx1h1EPxx3wjnXoCRLqfnmoXNa1t4vqYbhgYZkkxin5aKsyXWK2iIrJ2kh_0_POhVOcyIzCbYx1cLF/s320/2010_02_18+Progress+El+Gadhi.jpg" /></a><br /><div></div>Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236307831653964105.post-74287694892745935102009-12-29T20:00:00.000-08:002009-12-29T20:09:35.409-08:00VisitorsJames is down from college for winter break. He and his friend, Liz, came down to see what I was working on. I always encourage people who visit to make a stroke or two on whatever I am working on. Liz added a little more violet to the shadow on a dress. Then she wanted to try her hand at a painting of her own, so she made her first oil painting today. She painted my son as her drew. James is working on character designs for a comic story that he has been working on. It is always good for me to have people visit while I am working. They give me another perspective on what I am working on at the moment. Today's <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">work for</span> me was mostly focused on the face of a father in a family portrait. His face is nearly finished. I used it today for painting #2 and it is all set up to start painting #3 tomorrow. Today's painting I spent 5 hours on! That was a long time. I want to keep the painting down to 3 or 4 hours. <br /><br />This weekend I have plans to paint my sister Maureen who has volunteered to model for me! I hope it does not rain all weekend but I guess I can paint her in the rain! We plan to do this at the Kinsale Inn in Mattapoisett. I haven't asked them yet so I don't know if this is even possible but we will try. I would love to paint some Daily Paintings of that place! It has been a bit of work to get myself set up to the point at which I feel I can commit to a daily practice. I will keep you posted on this and other art works I have going on. He cut a couple of months worth. He was so accurate! Very quick, too. Then of course we had tea and then of to Wasabi for lunch. It was such a nice time that he volunteered to do it again. He just happens to be an amazing song writer and musician, too with a wonderful acustic album that my whole family fell in love with. Thanks Eddie!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU4-1Kel5eEeXFdLcsm_biUYNuN8Narp4rJ_AeNoK0EPUTgbYv-8fzZ1zX6lyCKtaC8OohZBLQB-bVZsgjy1YNt_zoDuzsdRBn1y20mPBXAw9zs3eLF8FacL-fzzUW9sDqit6PygZJm5oI/s1600-h/2009.09.08+cutting+board+and+Taka+painting+004.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379304637327185170" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU4-1Kel5eEeXFdLcsm_biUYNuN8Narp4rJ_AeNoK0EPUTgbYv-8fzZ1zX6lyCKtaC8OohZBLQB-bVZsgjy1YNt_zoDuzsdRBn1y20mPBXAw9zs3eLF8FacL-fzzUW9sDqit6PygZJm5oI/s320/2009.09.08+cutting+board+and+Taka+painting+004.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div></div>Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236307831653964105.post-53645111082448618352009-09-06T17:51:00.001-07:002009-09-06T18:06:04.977-07:00Getting the Boards ReadyFirst I had to get all of my little boards and big boards that need to be cut down together. I mixed black gesso with white gesso until a had a medium grey. Then I used a damp sponge brush and diluted the gesso with a little water and applied three or four coats making sure to sand in between. It was a learning experience. As I got better at it, the results got smoother. Tuesday, the large boards will be cut into 6"x6" panels. I plan to be ready Thursday to start creating A Paiting a Day. Getting all of my supplies ready is going to be very important.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Ty6KfBLbT8eHAhFKWVKRKdmI9nJbsbO6sUOAt7EsCgAY5gbaAEP2qVCv6wSBoMLBgYZhLsIjiEmrLcbUG2ghAwKTmkfZFomuggP-BZY693GZ7Kw8g5m_181T2WaRFb3B5-pe5LlUsAit/s1600-h/2009.09.06+Gesso+and+Taka+003.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5378523176177904466" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Ty6KfBLbT8eHAhFKWVKRKdmI9nJbsbO6sUOAt7EsCgAY5gbaAEP2qVCv6wSBoMLBgYZhLsIjiEmrLcbUG2ghAwKTmkfZFomuggP-BZY693GZ7Kw8g5m_181T2WaRFb3B5-pe5LlUsAit/s320/2009.09.06+Gesso+and+Taka+003.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhurdavdg47xzRAjmWaO05obTnyjWc69U_Ch8g3GU9LL5MAt1GvcqfiIapI276SWdSt8RPpvArqJWzgob2QZWClfzEsxDmMlnT3GPa8Pkt0kImBN1yIsxwbBLCHrXtROgiZQ7GOAvYzrjX5/s1600-h/2009.09.06+Gesso+and+Taka+012.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5378523168037305282" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhurdavdg47xzRAjmWaO05obTnyjWc69U_Ch8g3GU9LL5MAt1GvcqfiIapI276SWdSt8RPpvArqJWzgob2QZWClfzEsxDmMlnT3GPa8Pkt0kImBN1yIsxwbBLCHrXtROgiZQ7GOAvYzrjX5/s320/2009.09.06+Gesso+and+Taka+012.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkHck4KBQyEqjo5YBTTufQPPasiF4HKlsJmL_IVvl-P_N04QW_2tkoBqEQe8xGVc0qEa-QnWb-WdwgbU_g_tgiPHsIFeWRzeexwy0G_VSTwdAKEjmuQMdyLjSEmL3HhlnwjE7obG7fXOvN/s1600-h/2009.09.06+Gesso+and+Taka+038.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5378523159402918498" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkHck4KBQyEqjo5YBTTufQPPasiF4HKlsJmL_IVvl-P_N04QW_2tkoBqEQe8xGVc0qEa-QnWb-WdwgbU_g_tgiPHsIFeWRzeexwy0G_VSTwdAKEjmuQMdyLjSEmL3HhlnwjE7obG7fXOvN/s320/2009.09.06+Gesso+and+Taka+038.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid1jLG0eguuAW4zyLQC0YgS1tGiz_4FRc-xajVskuFJAi7ibpc80LbV14yP7DRd7U2KbOx_m52hhARkvTfTV9SWAl8reuDlrrHP6rEhcCnP0hUFEYuOkhHQlAq01Im2tjWPpd59td1oAZi/s1600-h/2009.09.06+Gesso+and+Taka+033.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5378523150883784482" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid1jLG0eguuAW4zyLQC0YgS1tGiz_4FRc-xajVskuFJAi7ibpc80LbV14yP7DRd7U2KbOx_m52hhARkvTfTV9SWAl8reuDlrrHP6rEhcCnP0hUFEYuOkhHQlAq01Im2tjWPpd59td1oAZi/s320/2009.09.06+Gesso+and+Taka+033.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236307831653964105.post-7746187781365494252009-09-05T19:07:00.000-07:002009-09-05T19:10:21.794-07:00I need a good teacher. Today I tried to gesso two boards. It was rough going. I found it very thick and streaky. I went on Youtube for help and found that some people use a damp sponge to apply. This worked better. There are two coats now. I will do two more tomorrow.Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236307831653964105.post-38878816469696960982009-09-04T19:29:00.000-07:002009-09-04T19:44:44.729-07:00Monday is my last day for this summer season for being a personal cook and dinner party organizer. I love the job. The hours are late and the work can be very labor intensive at times so I find painting to be very spuradic. Not only that, I find that I am not very organized to do a painting every day. I have run out of the correct size board and have to gesso and cut more. So this morning, with my daughter Alex, I went to the Home Depot and bought four boards. each board can be cut into 32 6"x6" panels. I plan to paint them before I cut them down this time. a friend is coming to my house on Tuesday with a table saw to cut them down with me. So before Tuesday, I have to gesso the big boards 3 times to get them ready. Then I will have four months worth. Also, the brushes have come in and I bought more paints so I will be ready to go. I plan on making this part of my morning reutine because I have tried doing it after work at 8 or 9 and I am pretty shot by then. I am a morining person anyway. I love my peaceful mornings. Lets see if it changes my work not to be exhausted and in poor lighting when I pick up the brush...not to mention trying to beat the clock to get the posted by midnight!Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1236307831653964105.post-89403641854402900862009-09-03T16:59:00.000-07:002009-09-03T17:18:39.938-07:00Okay... This is a 6"x6" painting that I made but it does not count toward a daily painting because I painted it in 1994. It was done when my children were little..my daughter here was only two years old. I had just been gifted a huge book of Rembrandt's works and I was inspired. I was new to painting (just over a year) and thought I would go into as a profession but that idea got put on hold until 2008 when I took a summer off to study with some of the best. This work was made with dissolved oil pastels in Linquin. It was my first attempt in the medium. I won't sell it because of sentimental reasons...you understand. I just put it here to give you some thing to look at and something to read! Good night.<br />Just realized I put this on the wrong blog..I meant to put it on my daily paintings blog <a href="http://www.christinemccoy.blogspot.com/">www.christinemccoy.blogspot.com</a>. Now I have decided to leave it here too so if you find this interesting, you can check out my other little works on my daily painting page! Thanks!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjww3kjt4gg_q6ebvbU5-VcsoHAONtUABaa0ihewHmkjNTht1imMQirgLV4_tFy8hnSl9wetShlMOMEUGjLAfxnl5D_LvHblgOBzxZo3i6k1vtE_eTQFoOczV7i0DH4ziRr09_OJEUQYnkO/s1600-h/2009.09.03+Post.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377395463729661826" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 318px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjww3kjt4gg_q6ebvbU5-VcsoHAONtUABaa0ihewHmkjNTht1imMQirgLV4_tFy8hnSl9wetShlMOMEUGjLAfxnl5D_LvHblgOBzxZo3i6k1vtE_eTQFoOczV7i0DH4ziRr09_OJEUQYnkO/s320/2009.09.03+Post.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div></div>Christine MCCoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11362013096928969829noreply@blogger.com1
